Just a few pictures of me and the local cowboys heading out to gather the cows and calves for spring working.
Here is a picture of Jess feeding "Soldier". The calf was our first born in February and we almost lost him. When we checked up on him 24 hours after birth he was still laying in the same exact spot and the mother cow had a full bag of milk indicating that the calf had not drank the Colostrum, which is critical to calf survival and health. When we brought the calf to the barn it was obvious that it had a difficult birth by indications of a swollen tongue that prevented it from being able to suckle. We had to administer antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and stomach feed this calf for 10 days before we were able to get him to start sucking down a bottle. Most people would have given up much sooner, but we had faith and the end result was a nice healthy calf although smaller weight and height than what he should be at this time due to his lack of momma's nutrition.
