Who Cares About Cowboys Anymore

This is a beautiful article written by Elmer Kelton that I feel needs to be read to understand the true meaning of a cowboy/cowgirl and why men and women alike choose to adopt the ranching/cowboying style of life.

My wife and I have always considered ourselves hard workers and physically fit. When we decided to jump into the ranching life head first, we really didn't have a clue as to the amount of work or the challenges that lay ahead. My wife was indeed hesitant, but I was convinced that this was the lifestyle that I wanted to promote to our families, friends and our children. This lifestyle has indeed turned out to be a lot of hard work and long hours that we have all learned to love and enjoy every bit of it with the exception of dealing with livestock death. Our livestock are just like our kids as they require constant attention and loving care.
